Q1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge
conventions of real media products?
It uses the
typical conventions of a media magazine as there is a masthead in which is larger
than the rest of the text on the page. Like other magazines it also contains
headings which will alert the reader of what they will find inside this issue.
Like all magazines, there is a colour scheme going on, and I have stuck to
burgundy and gold as they are both quite royal colours and they would present
this school as being quite high-end and prestigious as far as schools go. I did
in fact take a quite maverick approach regarding the contents page, the numbers
on most contents pages are quite simply in a straight column, yet mine are
separated, with some page references going down the right side, and some going
down the left. This may show the school to be fun, but the colour scheme will
also maintain the school to be quite prestigious.
Q2. How did you attract/address your audience?
The audience for this magazine are the students of
this school. The first thing I did was ensure that the photos taken will
include students of the school, which would immediately engage the audience as
the character in on the cover is also a student at their school so they
immediately would relate to the character. I have also used the colour gold to
alert the audience. Gold is a bright colour and would appeal to anyone purely
because of its prowess as a colour. On the cover, I have pictured two students,
both looking different ages, meaning it will appeal more than just one age
group.
Q3. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
Honestly, I am quite a seasoned veteran in regards to
using Photoshop to produce magazine pages and so I didn’t really learn much
about it. I did, however, learn how to use the ‘bevel and emboss’ tool which
enabled me to make my masthead and other headings look more clear, which can
only benefit me as it will catch the eyes of the target audience and stand-out
more.
Q4. What are the strengths and weaknesses of your final product?
Strengths:
·
My cover
looks quite professional and don’t look too bad for a preliminary task.
·
I have taken
good pictures and they are cropped appropriately and do not tarnish the
structure of my pages
·
My contents
page maintains the colour scheme on the
cover
Weaknesses:
·
My pages
needed more images
·
My cover
needed more content which would show what is inside this issue, as there are
only two pieces
It doesn't look anything near as good as what I want to produce for my final music magazine piece.
